FAIRBRIDGE REHEARSALS : MONDAYS 7-8PM

Calling out to all performers/dancers who would like to get involved in this wonderful festival! Beleza will perform at the parade of Fairbridge Festival on Sunday 11th April 2010, and is planning to have a big crew of 20 dancers, a stilt performer and 25 musicians! The Monday rehearsals will be with live drumming and cost $20. The saturday class will also be teaching the same material for those who would like more practice!

NEW PERCUSSION CLASS (TIMBAU)

With fresh new inspiration after the workshops from the band of the "Warriors of Brazil"

show, Mikeleza has decided to start teaching Timbau in Perth.

This class is for all the lovers of the "djembe-like" brazilian instrument called THE TIMBAU!

Learn the rhythms from Bahia made famous by bands such as TIMBALADA, ILE AYE and OLODUM. (Samba Reggae, Ile Aye, Tamaquinho, Pixote, Aremba etc)

Timbau is played with hands and sticks and is a very dynamic instrument that can be used in many styles of music.

Beleza Samba School is starting to prepare for FAIRBRIDGE FESTIVAL and we are hoping to have 4 or 5 Timbau players for the show.

WHEN?: Every Wednesday night 7 - 9pm starting from the 27th of January

WHERE?: 135 Stirling Highway, North Fremantle

HOW MUCH?: The normal Beleza rate of $75 per 6 classes (or $15 for 1 class)

NEW DANCE CLASS with LIVE DRUMMING!

Experience the thrill and adrenaline of Afro-Brazilian Rhythms in this fun fitness dance class ! Yamileza will guide you through different moves, following the calls and responses of the drummers.

This class will also lead to festival performances for those who want to be involved! 2010 projects include Fairbridge Festival and Fremantle Festival Parade.

WHEN : 3-4PM starting on Sat 23rd January

WHERE : 135 Stirling Highway – North Fremantle

Beleza and Bellyfusion classes are reopening officially next Tuesday 12th of January!

5.30pm World Fusion Bellydance (pre-requisite : 6 months dance experience)

NEW!!! 6.30pm Complete Beginners Bellydance course (up till the 9th of February)

Always wanted to learn bellydancing? This is your chance to give it a go with this new beginners course! Learn some drills to isolate body parts and discover the art of sensual, snaky hipnotising movements!

Dance classes on thursdays :

5.30pm Bellysamba

6.30pm Samba

NEW!!! 7.30pm Bellydance props : this class is for bellydancers willing to learn how to dance with an accessory such as veil, cane, sword, zills, fans, wings, ribbons, pois etc.

Please bring your own prop (if you don't have any, I have a few available to borrow) and get ready to experience a whole heap of new possibilities in your expression through dance! Bellydance props can be used for story-telling and add a dramatic touch to your dance.

Happy New Year!

This saturday will be the first workshop run by Beleza for the year 2010. We are excited about the year to come!

Also this thursday at our regular gig at the DEEN there will be some special guests from the touring show "Warriors of Brazil". It should be a great night so if you are in the area you should come down and check it out!!

2009 is coming to an end and now is a time to reflect on the year and make plans for the next. Beleza members are meeting for their annual "end of year" party this weekend. We have a lot to be proud of and will celebrate what has been an awesome year of gigs and progress.

Fremantle Festival 2009 saw Beleza as the biggest it has ever been with 14 Dancers, 23 Drummers and 1 stilt dancer. We are now making plans about how to maintain these numbers and keep Beleza growing in 2010.

Beleza has been doing many smaller shows around Perth in the last few months. We have appeared at many corporate shows, festivals and parties by ourselves and accompanied by dancers and capoeiristas. Kuerazo Latin Dancers have been a great help in promoting us around the place, thanks to their manager Li-anne Carroll.
